Reverian

The city of Reverian was founded approximately three centuries before The Fall.  At the time many human villages had sprung up throughout the valleys dotting Olivantia.  Most herded sheep or grew corn and other vegetables to make their livelihood.  They were under near constant assault by Orokh raiders until the head of a village named Reverian decided to take action.

He sent word to every village in the area asking to form a militia for common defense.  If the villages worked together they could drive the Orokh off, which would benefit all of them.  Most of the villages accepted, and the new militia had a great deal of success in keeping the Orokh at bay.

This arrangement became a way of life over the next decade, and the milita grew into a more formal organization as the years passed.  The members took to worshipping Dalanthar, and grew more and more skilled in the art of war.

Dalanthar was pleased by this, and appeared in the sky over the village of Reverian.  He bade the knights to construct a great keep, and they eagerly obliged.  Each village contributed men for the labor, and over the next five years they built a great keep where the two largest rivers in the area came together.

The place became not just a place to worship Dalanthar, but also a center of trade.  Before long a thriving town sprang up around the keep, so the knights began construction of a wall that would ring the new town.  They named it Reverian which meant reverence in the imperial tongue, as a way to honor Dalanthar.

The city grew into the largest metrolopis for a thousand miles, eventually housing over a hundred thousand people.  A thriving river trade competed with overland caravans, and brought in all manner of goods from ports as far as Hasra.  This trade enriched Reverian, who grew ever larger.  Smaller cities sprang up around it until it became a nation of some size.

By the time Olivanticus invaded the capital held nearly a quarter million souls, and spanned both rivers.  A second wall was created by Olivanticus to protect the outer city, and still stands today.

Reverian is broken into a number of different districts based on location and social class.

  • Oldtown- the original city that surrounds the keep.  This area of town is largely dominated by upscale merchants who cater to Hightown.
  • Hightown- the hillside behind the keep.  This area is reserved for the richest members of the city.  The houses at the top are vast manors, which get smaller the closer you come to the base of the hill.
  • Lowtown- Lowtown is the river basin between the two rivers.  It is where the poor and the merchants who cater to the poor live.  This area is sprawling compared to Oldtown, though not quite as large as Hightown.  The population density is much higher of course.
  • East Docks- the docs along the eastern riverfront.  This area is more well to do than the western docs, though both are several steps above Lowtown.
  • Western Docks- see above
  • The Wall- The wall district is a thin ring lining the inside of the massive wall built by Olivanticus.  It provides housing for the troops that man the wall, and includes shops, inns and other amenities they might use.
  • The Keep- the original keep was destroyed in a magical blast during The Purge.  It has been rebuilt as a great temple to Dalanthar, and houses the Knights of the Dawn, led by the Grand Marshal.
