Mountain Shadow is the village where both Larken and Temis were born. As such its of singular importance to the story, and is the origin of many of the main characters.
Origin
Mountain Shadow is so named because it stands in the shadow of Mount Erl, which is the tallest peak in the range that borders the valley where the town was constructed.
The town was originally built as both a midway point between two larger cities, and because of the iron mine in the hills. During the war this mine was a major resource, but after the night of black blood the demand for steel dropped sharply.
It is still a resource the village uses, but not nearly so profitable as it was under the reign of the Binders.
