Novel Checklist
- Units of time. Search for seconds, minutes and hours. Where possible change seconds to ‘span of heartbeats’ or something similar.
- Names. Each and every name needs to make sense. This means in the final version every name should ring well, and correspond to a region. Olivantian names should be germanic. Hasran names should be more latin or for newer families English words.
- Colors. Red is boring. Go through and search for every instance of a given color. Change red to scarlet, ruby, etc.
- Descriptions. Make sure every one of them matches. Look for consistency, and add description to the website for easy reference.
Types of Animals
Horse- Horses live an average of 25-30 years. 40 is considered venerable and the record is 56.
Razorback Boar- Fur consists of stiff bristles. Colors include grey, black and brown. They stand 3-4 feet tall and weight between 110-600 pounds depending on species. Tusks can be up to eight inches and are bent upwards in males. They are much smaller on females. Adult males are solitary, but females and young join groups called Sounders that can contain up to 20.
They forage from dusk until dawn and are omnivores who will eat anything they can find including roots, nuts, berries insects and lizards. Mating season is mid autumn. Boars are usually hunted with bows and a boarspear.
Tracks are similar to deer as both have a split hoof, but deer are narrower and more pointed towards the front. Hogs leave wallows, rubs and scat (poo).
Types of Wood
Oak- is a good strong wood because it contains Tannin, which makes it resistant to fungus and insects. This is one more reason it is often used for furniture, ships, wine barrels or buildings. Chips are used to smoke fish or other meat. Cork oak can even be used for corks. Pests include wood beetles and water mold.
Elm- primarily used for wheels, chairs or coffins. It was also used as water pipes since it is highly resistent to rot when kept permanently wet. However, this does not include ground rot so if put near dirt it will still rot. Clippings are often used to feed livestock.
Types of Liquor
Whiskey- Generally made from corn. Aged between 2-4 years before considered mature. It can also be made from wheat or rye.
