Point of View
Aranthar
Setting
The inside of the Rusty Spigot. The scene begins inside Aranthar’s room, and moves to the common room. It’s mid-winter so stress the cold. It’s in Lowtown so also stress how decrepit everyone and everything is.
Mood
Things are very grim. The weather, attitude of the knights and Aranthar’s internal monologue should reflect this. Life is bad and getting worse for the residents of Lowtown.
Synopsis
Aranthar wakes up depressed and hung over. He heads to the common room and reflects over how futile his search feels. He is trying to find out who’s been killing knights in Lowtown. No bodies have been found, which makes no sense. If thugs were killing knights they wouldn’t bother hiding corpses.
While in the common room he overhears a few roughs talking about someone claiming responsibility for the murders. He inserts himself into their dice game, but before he can learn who’s behind the attacks Briana enters the bar.
She presents herself to him, thus outting him as a knight. Knights are hated in Lowtown, and the entire bar is angry that Aranthar was spying on them. The chapter ends with a bar fight breaking out.
Make sure to end the chapter with Aranthar thinking how cliche a bar fight is, and with him saying ‘Thanks Kid’ to Briana.
Tension Level
Medium (6)- I need the reader to understand how bad life is for the residents of Lowtown. They’re hungry, out of work and angry at the world. Things are like a pile of tinder waiting for a match.
